Computer Use Rules

PROCEDURES FOR USE OF THE INTERNET AND COMPUTERS

1. Computer and internet users must be current patrons of the Grace District Library, and be prepared to sign an access agreement, (Limitation of Liability), before being allowed to use the public access computer for the first time. Parental or guardian signatures are required for minors. It will be necessary to sign a check-in/out sheet at the desk for each computer session.

2. The public access computer will be available during regular library hours: Monday 10:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M., and Tuesday through Friday 10:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Library staff assistance is limited, however, the library has several books available for checkout which provide information on Internet use and may be helpful.

3. Computer use is based on a first-come, first-serve basis. When someone else if waiting to use the computer, your time will be limited to 30 minutes. You will be allowed an additional five minutes to complete your session after being informed that someone is waiting to use the computer.

4. You will be required to purchase a diskette from the library for a minimal charge before saving files. You may NOT use your own diskettes or software programs on the public access computer at the Grace District Library.

5. Warning: You may want to install and use a virus detection system on your personal system. The Grace District Library is not responsible for damage to a patron’s disk or computer, or for the loss of data that may occur as a result of library computer use.

6. E-Mail accounts will not be available. 7. “Chat” services will not be provided.

8. Internet use for any purpose that violates United States, state, of local laws, transmitting threatening, harassing, or obscene materials, or interfering with or disrupting network users services or equipment is NOT ACCEPTABLE. Disruptions include, but are limited to: propagation of computer worms, distribution of unsolicited advertising, and changes made to software or hardware.

9. Computer use for playing recreational games is not allowed when patrons needing research information are waiting for access.

10. Violators of Computer/Internet Policy (such as changing software or hardware settings) may permanently lose library privileges. Illegal acts involving public computer access and resources may also be subject to prosecution by local, state, or federal authorities.

11. Please be aware that the public access computer is placed in an area of the library which does not offer the user much privacy , and other patrons may be able to see the computer screen being accessed.

12. Cost of using the public access computer is limited to black and white printouts at 10 cents per page and the cost of a diskette to be purchased at the library if you wish to save files.

13. If deemed necessary, the library reserves the right to limit the number of patrons using the computer at one time. When more than a single person are using the computer at the same time, each person must sign a check-in/check-out slip and a computer access agreement unless signed previously.
